Why Is Travel Medical Insurance So Important?

Typically, domestic health insurance does not provide coverage for overseas medical emergencies and international travelers are unable to obtain this type of protection after they are outside of their home country.

Exploring far-away lands without medical coverage could leave you vulnerable to all kinds of expenses, beyond the standard hospital bills.

Travelers who are injured overseas may need assistance with things like:

Emergency Medical Evacuation

Sometimes referred to as medevac or medivac, Emergency Medical Evacuation ensures that you get to the right hospital quick after an injury and that you get care on the way. Travel insurance can mitigate enormous costs of a medical evacuation in the event of unforeseen emergencies.

Emergency Medical Reunion

When loved ones need to be with a patient after an injury, Emergency Medical Reunion can lead to expensive overseas travel and lodging expenses. Having the right coverage allows friends and family the peace of mind to be with those who need them when they need them.

Trip Interruption

Trip Interruption occurs when a traveler is forced to end their trip early and return home. Provided that it occurs for a covered reason, such as medical emergency or natural disaster, the expenses for the remainder of the trip are reimbursed up to 150%.

Return of Mortal Remains

Sometimes called repatriation of mortal remains, which is the worst-case scenario of a loved one passing away while traveling overseas. The body must be appropriately transported back to family at this time.

What Happens If I Don’t Get Travel Health Insurance?

In short, debt, further injury, or even loss of life.

The forms of additional assistance involved with severe injury overseas can add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Emergency medical evacuation alone may cost $50,000 or more. If something happens while you’re traveling internationally, and your regular health insurance or credit card doesn’t offer any coverage, you’re at risk of suddenly weathering many thousands of dollars of debt.

If you’re unable to fulfill an unexpected medical evacuation, this risk may also result in failure to receive the best medical care. This could mean the difference between saving or losing a limb – or a loved one’s life.

What Do Travel Insurance Plans Cost?

The average cost of a travel insurance plan for a relatively short trip overseas might be $100 or less. Our agents’ expertise and personal assistance is completely free. They’re available to help make sure you pick a plan that fully covers your needs.

With Murray’s BCBS Travel Insurance Policies, not only will you be able to enjoy your adventures with peace-of-mind, but you won’t have to pay upfront and then wait for reimbursement either. Our support is there the moment it’s needed.
